This week’s Midweek Melody was written by Jacques Ibert, a French composer who lived from 1890 to 1962. Cinq pièces en trio, which means “Five Pieces for Trio,” was composed in 1935 for oboe, clarinet and bassoon. The five pieces are very short, lasting from one to three minutes each. Ibert is known as a neo-classicist, composing mostly in classical form, but using modern harmonies.
